Cookie Policy

Last updated: 23 February 2026 · Version 1.1

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Vitae, operated by ENGINUITY BV, uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) when you visit our website and use our Service.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device. Browser local storage (localStorage) is a similar technology that allows websites to store data in your browser. Both are used to remember information between page visits.

3. How We Use Local Storage

Vitae uses only essential local storage for the operation of the Service. We do not use any tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. Our analytics tool (Umami) is entirely cookie-free — it does not set or read any cookies.

NameTypePurposeDuration
vitae_tokenEssentialStores your authentication token (JWT) to keep you signed in. Without this, you would need to sign in on every page visit.Session (cleared on logout)
vitae_refresh_tokenEssentialStores a refresh token used to renew your session without requiring you to re-enter your credentials.7 days (cleared on logout)
vitae_themeFunctionalRemembers your preferred colour theme (light, dark, or system) so it persists between visits.Persistent (until cleared)
vitae_cookie_consentEssentialRecords that you have acknowledged this cookie policy, so the consent banner is not shown again.Persistent (until cleared)

4. Third-Party Cookies

When you use Google Sign-In (optional), Google may set cookies on your device to facilitate the authentication process. These cookies are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

When you make a payment, Stripe may set cookies to process the transaction securely. These cookies are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

We do not use any other third-party cookies. Our analytics are handled by a self-hosted, cookie-free tool (Umami) that collects only anonymous page-view counts — no analytics cookies, social media cookies, or advertising cookies are present on Vitae.

5. Managing Your Preferences

Since Vitae only uses essential storage for authentication and preferences, disabling these would prevent the Service from functioning correctly. However, you can:

  • Clear your browser's local storage at any time through your browser settings (this will sign you out)
  • Use your browser's private/incognito mode to prevent persistent storage
  • Configure your browser to block third-party cookies (this may affect Google Sign-In)

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service.
